Plenary Speaker: Research and Practice: Reaching Out to Your Students with Learning Differences and Delays Using Motor Programmes

Mary Mountstephen // Move to Learn
14:00 to 15:00
Room/Location:

In this presentation, Mary Mountstephen will draw on her professional experience as a teacher, special educational needs coordinator, researcher and trainer to share an overview of the potential for physical activities to exert an impact on the wider school and social curriculum. She explains how modifying the speed and spatial contexts, for example, can have a significant impact on wider aspects of learning such as focus, concentration, posture and fine motor skills.

Mary draws on international research with specific application to dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and developmental delay. With significant experience of working internationally in the early years and primary sectors, she has a sound understanding of the impact of Physical Education, particularly as she was Head of Learning Support for many years at a school that has produced more Olympians than any other.
